Be Aware Of Common Web Hosting Traps

You can find web hosting services all over the internet, and like everything else some are better than others.  There are so many available though that it is hard to find the right one for your particular web hosting needs.  While you may be tempted to go with the cheapest web hosting plan around you still need to be aware that some of these web hosting companies are not what they seem.  You need to keep from falling into the most common web hosting traps around.  Here are some things you should look for to keep from getting ripped off by a less than savory web hosting service.

Amazingly Low Price
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.  Cheap web hosting is one of the most sought after commodities on the web hosting market and there have been some web hosting providers who have sacrificed a lot of things in order to keep their prices affordable and competitive.  You could face server overload with uptime and downtime problems, less than optimal support services from the company and other major issues that will have you tearing your hair out before you decide to move someplace else.  Not all cheap web hosting packages are bad and of poor quality, but you should still be aware of low prices that seem to be too good.

No matter how you plan on using your website, you need to make sure that the web hosting service you are planning to use can accommodate more traffic from your site as well as additional files that can be loaded as you need them.  You do not want to be limited and you should really carefully research all of the websites you are interested in to make sure you have room to grow.  A one-size-fits-all type of the plan may not be the solution to your website needs.

Unprofessional Site
There are two things to watch out for here.  The web hosting’s main website should not be set up with all of the bells and whistles they offer – unless it is for demonstration purposes only – and the site should also not be underdeveloped.  The web hosting provider’s website should be professional and respectable, easy to navigate, and with an FAQ page that is easy to find.  The company’s e-mail address or phone number should also be close by.

Incredible Claims
Be careful if a web hosting company promises you 99.9% uptime guaranteed.  Many of the best web hosting companies are offering this type of uptime guarantee, but unfortunately many customers are discovering that they have been the victim of false advertising.  If the web host offers money back, credit, or another form of compensation when the system goes down, then you can count on them standing by their word.  They are also rare.

Questionable Business Practices
Bizarre pricing schemes – like a three year contract to get your $3.95 per month that advertises special and non-existent tech support are considered questionable practices, and you should steer clear of the website.  If you are unsure about their customer support, call their hot line and gauge their reaction.
